Meat Animal Research Center says it has addressed animal care concerns

The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center keeps a herd of 12,600 cattle, along with 13,900 swine and 3,700 sheep, at its 34,000-acre site near Clay Center.

The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center, which spreads across 35,000 acres near Clay Center in south-central Nebraska, lost as many as 18 employees, including federal workers who conduct research into food safety, bovine illnesses, and reproduction, and technicians charged with caring for the animals.

CLAY CENTER -- The federal livestock research facility in Nebraska at the center of an animal abuse controversy says it has addressed all the recommendations of an independent review of its animal care practices, and a moratorium on new research has been lifted.
