On Oct. 1, 1986, a groundbreaking exhibition opened at the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery. It was called "The Art Quilt." It went where no show had gone before, bringing together the work of 16 artists who were transforming the quilt world, shifting from traditional quilting into the realm of fine art.
