'It's sad because it's a waste'; no takers for military surplus program's Jaguar fire truck

Brad Frandsen bought this Jaguar K/30E firefighting tanker in the aftermath of 2012's devastating wildfires in northern Nebraska. It's gathered dust in a Lincoln parking lot for military surplus vehicles ever since. "The thing is kind of dead in the water as you see it," Frandsen said.

The Jaguar — which packs a pair of 280-horsepower engines — would need thousands of dollars in work to repair, Frandsen estimates.

Ralph Colet says the Jaguar firetruck he designed is an "engineering work of art." The vehicle's main purpose is to respond quickly to airplane crashes.
