Painted pavement and free herbs: Groups sprucing up 11th Street alley entrances

Community herb garden, 8.27

Grant Daily, a community specialist with NeighborWorks Lincoln, helped Community Crops plant a pair of free herb gardens on South 11th Street, part of an improvement project that also includes painted alley entrances.

Alley art

Nolan Treadway will paint a whimsical squirrel at the 11th Street alley entrance between B and C streets.

Joel Anderson's proposal was picked for the alley entrance between A and B streets.

Jean Stryker's welcome mat — which she'll paint between C and D streets — will greet residents in 10 languages.

Gretchen Demitroff's work will honor the area's Germans from Russia roots.
