Former Husker Charlie Greene (second from right) hits the tape, winning the first heat of the 100-meter dash at the Summer Olympics in Mexico City on Oct. 13, 1968. His time was 10.00 seconds, tying with the world record. He went on to earn the bronze medal in the final.

The fantastic 100-meter dash semifinals at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on June 21, 1968, resulted in the world record of 10.0 seconds being smashed by three men,  in two separate heats with the record time of :09.9. In the left picture, Jim Hines of the Houston Striders, edges Ronnie Ray Smith of the California Striders. The right picture shows Charlie Greene of the Huskers AA, winning his heat with the same record time.
