Collection of a lifetime: Chevy dealer to sell 500 old cars, dozens of them new

Nearly 500 cars and pickups -- many of them traded to Lambrecht Chevrolet during its 50 years -- have been lined up in a farm field near the Pierce Community Golf Course and will be auctioned in September.

Auctioneer Yvette VanDerBrink has spent much of her summer preparing the Lambrecht Collection for this month’s auction, including cleaning out the dealership building that holds the most valuable new-but-old cars and trucks. She’s not willing to predict how much bidders will pay. “We don’t want to put numbers in people’s heads,” she said.

Ray Lambrecht married Mildred Heckman in 1946, the year he returned to Pierce from the Army and the year he started working at Lambrecht Chevrolet.

Ray Lambrecht works the counter at the Chevrolet dealership he built in Pierce. Later this month, he’ll sell the 500 cars he's collected during a half-century in business.

News of the upcoming auction has drawn a steady stream of auto enthusiasts to Pierce, about 20 minutes northwest of Norfolk.

Ray Lambrecht and his wife, Mildred, ran Lambrecht Chevrolet for more than a 50 years, retiring in 1996.

Like a parking lot from an earlier time, hundreds of Lambrecht Chevrolet’s decades-old used and new cars are awaiting auction in a field near the Pierce Community Golf Course.
