An inmate at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution was found dead Saturday morning after a suspected suicide.

Staff members found the inmate, Adrian Eagle Elk, 29, unresponsive in his cell at about 7 a.m., the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said in a news release.

Eagle Elk was serving 24 to 39 years for six different charges in Scotts Bluff County. He was convicted of one count first-degree assault, three counts second-degree assault, one count third-degree assault and one charge relating to an attempted escape in 2007.

In that incident, Eagle Elk reportedly asked a prison staffer for medication and, after obtaining it, pushed the staffer through an open door, where other officers were located. Eagle Elk then locked the door and released a fellow inmate.

Eagle Elk was eligible for parole in March, with a release date of Oct. 27, 2025.
