Lincoln's homicide victims of 2024

1. Greg Little

Gregory Little Jr., 32, was at the Royal Hookah Bar & Lounge, 1619 O St., at about 3 a.m. on April 7, when a dispute broke out among several patrons, apparently over cutting in line.

Three security guards, who were working at the bar, attempted to intervene. Lincoln Police Assistant Chief Jason Stille said Little or someone else in his group grabbed a baton from one of the security guards. The incident spilled outside, and a scuffle ensued as they tried to get it back.

A 24-year-old security guard then shot Little in the arm and upper chest. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. A total of four shots were fired.

The Lancaster County Attorney's Office said May 28 that it won't file criminal charges against the security guard, citing self-defense.

2. John Armstrong

On April 9, the Lincoln Police Department responded to a reported shooting an apartment in the 1100 block of G Street at about noon.

When Officers arrived, they found John Armstrong, 52, of Lincoln, with a gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jacob Mulloy, 53, of Lincoln, turned himself in when police arrived and was cooperating with officers at the scene.

Mulloy and Armstrong were involved in a scuffle before the shooting about Armstrong entering Mulloy's residence without permission.

At some point during the altercation, Mulloy shot Armstrong in the face and then attempted to do CPR, police say.

The two had known each other for years before the shooting.

Mulloy was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

3. Xavien Sawyer

On May 18, 16-year-old Xavien Sawyer was stabbed to death by 14-year-old Stephen D'Amore in the 3000 block of North 64th Street after an alleged dispute, police say. 

LPD Assistant Chief Jason Stille said investigators believe a fight had taken place at a different location earlier on Saturday and that Sawyer and D'Amore were familiar with each other before the stabbing.

D'Amore is an eighth grader at Culler Middle School but was in an alternative program. 

Sawyer was a student at Lincoln East. 

D'Amore was charged with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

4 & 5. Terrell Jones and Carlos Silva

Terrell Jones and Carlos Silva were shot and killed on May 25, at about 2 a.m. at The Office, near West Van Dorn Street and U.S. 77.

Christopher Jones, 32, was arrested for the murder of Jones and Silva in Omaha. Darious Fletcher, 32, was charged for two counts of accessory to first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. 

Police say Johnson and Fletcher were talking to Silva and Jones outside the club before the shooting.

According to investigators, Johnson pulled out a gun and shot Silva near the entrance of the club and then shot Jones, who was sitting in a car nearby.

Fletcher then drove himself and Johnson away from the club, and the gun was ultimately handed over to Fletcher.

Silva and Jones were taken to the hospital, where they died from their injuries.

6. Francisco Javier Alvis

Francisco Javier Alvis, 25, of Lincoln was shot and killed July 5 in a business parking lot in southwest Lincoln, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

Officers were sent to a Russ's parking lot at 1520 S. Coddington Ave. at about 10 p.m. July 5 on reports of gunshots. Police found Alvis with multiple gunshot wounds and a loaded 9mm handgun near South Folsom and West A streets.

Miller said investigators with LPD interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage of the incident. Police believe the video footage showed Alvis meeting with 20-year-old Ge'Auvieon Crayton of Lincoln in the Russ's parking lot.

Alvis and Crayton were sitting in a white truck that belonged to Alvis. Miller said from witness statements Crayton is believed to have met with Alvis to purchase marijuana.

Alvis was shot multiple times and died at a local hospital. 

Crayton was found on July 6 at about 7 p.m. near North 25th and Holdrege streets. He was arrested for suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

7. Savion Hopkins

On Sept 8., at about 1:30 a.m., 24-year-old Saiveon Hopkins of Lincoln was shot in the chest outside a bar near 11th and P streets after a report of a fight, according to the Lincoln Police Department. 

Police arrived in the area and located Hopkins and another Lincoln man with gunshot wounds. They were both taken to a local hospital, where Hopkins died. 

Police did not say if Hopkins was involved in the fight. 

In October, LPD arrested two Omaha men in connection to the shooting. Kavion Wright, 23, was charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and two counts of second-degree assault. 

Gregory Bahati, 30, was charged with aiding and abetting first-degree murder, two counts of aiding and abetting second-degree assault and abetting using a firearm to commit a felony.

8. Johnathan McCray

On Christmas Eve, 20-year-old Johnathan McCray was shot multiple times by his 16-year-old brother, who did not recognize him, LPD said. 

At about 12:30 a.m., officers were sent to the Bridgeport Apartments near 14th and Superior streets on reports of at least a dozen gunshots. 

Police discovered McCray outside with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Bryan West Campus, where he died.

Kentrail McDaniel told officers he had been assaulted the week before the shooting at a parking lot near 21st and K streets and was in fear for his life. 

McDaniel and McCray arrived at the apartment complex in separate cars, which is how McDaniel did not recognize McCray when he shot 15 rounds from a semi-automatic rifle, striking him. 

McDaniel was charged in adult court with manslaughter and using a firearm to  commit a felony.
