Aug. 25: Two UNL English faculty members confront an undergraduate student recruiting for Turning Point USA.

Aug. 31: An email exchange between UNL administrator Donde Plowman and Ellen Weissinger, a former administrator, talks about the climate on campus for conservative students.

Sept. 7: UNL removes Courtney Lawton from teaching duties after an investigation of the Turning Point incident, citing safety concerns.

Sept. 11: Former executive director of the GOP, J.L. Spray, files public records request to Plowman for emails.

Sept. 21: UNL releases public records to Spray, including emails between Plowman and Weissinger.

Oct. 30: Three state senators pen an editorial critical of NU’s response to the Aug. 25 incident.

Nov. 1: UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green and NU President Hank Bounds forcefully respond to the senators.

Nov. 9: Conservative Review requests specific records from Plowman, including an email turned over to Spray.

Nov. 16: Bounds and Green meet with the senators at the Capitol to discuss UNL’s political climate.

Nov. 17: UNL releases Plowman’s emails to local media before returning Conservative Review’s request. Bounds sends apology letter about the emails to Gov. Pete Ricketts and all state senators. Green and Plowman tell Lawton she will no longer be teaching at UNL.

Nov. 20: Conservative Review posts story headlined “UNL campus not ‘safe’ for conservatives, public records reveal.”

Nov. 27: In an open letter, nearly 70 UNL faculty accuse politicians of using the incidents in a sustained attack to damage the university. The number of signatures has since quadrupled.
