Republican Ben Houchin and Democrat Jay Pitts are vying to replace Sheriff Terry Wagner, the longest-serving sheriff in county history, who is retiring this year after 32 years atop the department.

The sheriff's office is responsible for a range of law enforcement and court duties. It's staffed by 115 employees, including 84 commissioned deputies.
