Lincoln's next water source to flow deep beneath Platte River

The city's future connection to its latest water supply is waiting on the east side of the Platte River, but the 1,500-foot pipe will soon be buried deep beneath the river bed.

The directional drilling crew will use this reamer to tunnel a 60-inch hole beneath the Platte River.

Contractors welded 30 50-foot sections of steel pipe on the east bank of the Platte, and it will soon be pulled under the river to connect Lincoln's newest well with its water treatment plant.

This is where the 1,500-foot pipe will soon begin disappearing under the Platte River: Contractors first bore a 7-inch pilot hole, and will widen the route to accommodate the 3 1/2-foot-diameter water pipe.

Pipeline contractors and engineers used skateboards to work on and inspect the interior of the pipe.
