In 1887, land just south of South Street and west of First Street was platted as an urban subdivision called Eureka Addition, with streets south of South Street named for Civil War Union generals. Considerable land on every side of Lincoln was platted in the booming 1880s and remained undeveloped when the crash of 1893 happened. This map from 1903 shows the area of First and South streets.

In 1887, land just south of South Street and west of First Street was platted as an urban subdivision called Eureka Addition, with streets south of South Street named for Civil War Union generals. Considerable land on every side of Lincoln was platted in the booming 1880s and remained undeveloped when the crash of 1893 happened. This map from 1903 shows the area of First and South streets.
