Letter, 1/3: Trump, not migrants, threatens our safety, security

Dennis D. Boetcher wrote ("Border wall would boost our security," Dec. 28) that Democrats in Congress are "evil" and "despicable" because they won't give Donald Trump his wall on the southern border. Mr. Boetcher says the wall is about the "safety and security of us Americans."
Perhaps Mr. Boetcher's anxiety will be allayed somewhat by the fact that more Americans have been killed by contaminated lettuce in 2018 than by undocumented immigrants.

In his recent letter to the editor meant to deny climate change, S. Wayne Smith ("Climate change a scheme to tax energy," Dec. 25) quotes Charles Krauthammer, saying those who believe in climate change are “propagandists.”
Krauthammer was a psychiatrist who wrote partisan conservative columns for the Washington Post. Perhaps there are people who understand climate change better than a political pundit like Krauthammer.

In my opinion, climate change is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people. Leading by example is how people should promote their beliefs. Yet, we have the exact opposite when it comes to climate change.

Letter, 12/29: Wind turbines spar with property rights

The current wind energy regulations are written so that the noise measurement is taken from the exterior wall of my house. That means that all my property between my house and my neighbor's wind turbine is in a higher noise limit that is deemed safe by the health department for people who don't want to contract with the wind energy company like me.
The health and planning department reasoning is that we spend most of our time inside our homes. Don't we all own our property to the property line?! I live in the country and spend most of my time outdoors: hunting, fishing, gardening and just sitting listening to the sounds of the country, which include my neighbor's tractors and combines.

An article appeared in the recent Nebraska Alumni magazine that outlined efforts to stem the teacher shortage that is beginning to plague Nebraska. The article was written about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Department of Teacher Education.
While their efforts are certainly creative, they do not address the root cause of the looming teacher shortage. That cause can be characterized as teacher shaming, committed by our federal government to hide its malfeasance in closing the achievement gap over the last half century.

In his recent letter to the editor meant to deny climate change, S. Wayne Smith ("Climate change a scheme to tax energy," Dec. 25) quotes Charles Krauthammer, saying those who believe in climate change are “propagandists.”
Krauthammer was a psychiatrist who wrote partisan conservative columns for the Washington Post. Perhaps there are people who understand climate change better than a political pundit like Krauthammer.

Letter, 12/29: Wind turbines spar with property rights
The current wind energy regulations are written so that the noise measurement is taken from the exterior wall of my house. That means that all my property between my house and my neighbor's wind turbine is in a higher noise limit that is deemed safe by the health department for people who don't want to contract with the wind energy company like me.
The health and planning department reasoning is that we spend most of our time inside our homes. Don't we all own our property to the property line?! I live in the country and spend most of my time outdoors: hunting, fishing, gardening and just sitting listening to the sounds of the country, which include my neighbor's tractors and combines.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and their friends act in evil and despicable ways by allowing their hatred of the president to sacrifice our national security, by their refusal to approve a border wall.
Is the safety and security of us Americans any concern of the Democrats? Apparently not theirs. Or, is it for votes, power and corruption?

Letter, 12/28: UNL must combat teacher shaming
An article appeared in the recent Nebraska Alumni magazine that outlined efforts to stem the teacher shortage that is beginning to plague Nebraska. The article was written about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Department of Teacher Education.
While their efforts are certainly creative, they do not address the root cause of the looming teacher shortage. That cause can be characterized as teacher shaming, committed by our federal government to hide its malfeasance in closing the achievement gap over the last half century.
