Terrell McKinney, a state senator from North Omaha, recently traveled to Ghana and saw similarities between the African country and his hometown. “It’s crazy to me that our ancestors came from a natural, resource-rich continent, but the people are the most impoverished in the world,” he said. “Then you look here. Supposed to be the greatest country in the world, but every Black neighborhood is impoverished, and that’s viewed as a coincidence.”

Sen. Terrell McKinney said this week this new prison "is going to be overcrowded on Day One, and they'll come back to the Legislature for expansion funding."
