What's next?

A look at the process Whiteclay beer stores must follow to keep their liquor licenses next year:

* Each store must complete what is essentially a brand-new liquor license application within 30 days.

* Those applications must be reviewed by the Nebraska State Fire Marshal's Office, the Nebraska State Patrol and the state Department of Agriculture.

* Sheridan County must hold a public hearing on the applications and recommend approval or denial of each. A recommendation of denial would trigger an automatic public hearing before the Liquor Control Commission in Lincoln.

* The Liquor Control Commission would also be required to hold a hearing if three or more Sheridan County residents submit formal complaints about the licenses. The commission could also schedule a hearing on its own.

* Decisions on the licenses would probably come from the Liquor Commission in late January or early February. Typical commission practice is to approve or deny a license immediately after holding the public hearing on that license.
