Tour de Nebraska

Shari Rosso (far right in red) and her crew of cyclists took part in Tour de Nebraska last week. Rosso and her sister, Amy Potter, reveled in the five-day bicycle adventure in the heart of the Panhandle where they grew up. "I don't think a lot of people in eastern Nebraska get past the middle of Nebraska," said Rosso who now lives in Lincoln.

The Green Valley Homesteaders greeted Tour de Nebraska riders at the Double L Country Store and Cafe in the Wildcat Hills last Thursday. The band welcomed the tour's former co-director, Rich Rodenburg, (right) to sit in on harmonica.

When a dog ran alongside cyclists for several miles in Cheyenne County on the first day of Tour de Nebraska, riders worried it wouldn’t find its way home. So when they saw a passing pickup, they flagged it down. “It wasn’t his,” cyclist Bill Dinger said. “But he thought he knew whose it was and took it back to its owner for us.”

When Julie Thomsen showed up in Mitchell on a rainy Friday, the town's mayor, Dave Curtis, happened to have a new pair of socks in his car and handed them over, one of many acts of kindness by residents of the Nebraska Panhandle during the five-day Tour de Nebraska bike ride.
