This photo of the rock ford on Salt Creek south of Saltillo Road was taken in October of 1984. The photo, looking upstream, to the south shows how the larger rocks simply sank to the stream bed while the smaller rocks dropped to form the ford, washed downstream as the water level rose and fell through the years. The smallest rocks would have moved further downstream with each water event as the larger ones tended to stay put. This ford appears to be almost directly in the path of the new South Bypass.

In early 2020 the 11-mile path of Lincoln’s South Bypass or South Beltway, connecting U. S. Highway 77 with Nebraska Highway 2, was finalized and thousands of trees were cleared.
