Decorating the wall above the bookshelves that line the walls at Susan’s Books and Gifts is the phrase “life is beautiful” in a hundred languages. That phrase comes from one of Williams’ favorite poems, “A Mother’s Song,” written during the Civil War by Hester Suthers. Customers are given a copy of the poem to take with them. The china on display belonged to Williams' mother and is not for sale.
