A panel of Nebraska lawmakers heard three proposals regarding the state's evolving power needs Thursday. Two bills sought to set some regulations on large utility users, reflecting growing concerns across the state surrounding data centers' effects on neighbors. The third bill, dealing with local governments and renewable energy, displayed the disdain that many Nebraskans have for wind turbines and solar farms.
The Omaha Public Power District's North Omaha coal plant at 7475 John J. Pershing Drive. The transition from coal-dominated generation to a mix that includes natural gas, wind, solar and battery storage has made power grid operations more complex.
