On Memorial Day, a flag adorned the grave of a soldier killed in World War II who lies in Section BB, Grave 16, at Sitka National Cemetery in Alaska. Known only by the bureaucratic label “X-3,” he has rested there since 1948, when authorities gave up hope of identifying him.
