- Hope Harbor broke ground Friday on Lighthouse Apartments, an $11.9 million permanent supportive housing development in the 600 block of West First Street in Grand Island. The project, described as the first of its kind in central Nebraska, is expected to take 12 to 18 months to complete.
- The 20-unit apartment building will include five studio apartments, with the remaining units offering two or three bedrooms. Executive Director Kendra Lutz said the project will focus on providing stable housing for families.
- Residents will receive supportive services, including case management, to help them establish stability and work toward independent living. Referrals will be accepted from both Hope Harbor's transitional shelter and the broader community.
- The project has been in development for five years and is Hope Harbor's largest capital undertaking. Funding and support come from local banks, philanthropic and corporate partners, the City of Grand Island, Hall County Housing Authority and the federal HOME-ARP program.
- Former Executive Director Liz Mayfield, who now serves as a project consultant, was recognized for her 11 years of leadership at Hope Harbor.
