When the weather outside is frightful, do residents at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium hunker down on the animal equivalent of the couch or are they out frolicking through the snow?

Rosemary, a snow leopard, is more active when the weather turns colder. "Some of our animals are perfectly comfortable in Nebraska winters," said Jeff Ewelt, chief zoological officer.

Heaters are seen in the barn that holds the giraffes. "One of the great things about our habitats is that we can provide different environments within the same space. An animal might have a warm indoor area, a sheltered outdoor area and an open habitat where it can experience the weather if it chooses," said Jeff Ewelt, chief zoological officer.

An animal might have a warm indoor area, a sheltered outdoor area and an open habitat where it can experience the weather if it chooses," said Jeff Ewelt, chief zoological officer.
