Donald Muff Obituary
AMES - Donald James Muff, Sr. (Don), 89, passed away October 11, 2026, with his beloved wife of 66 years, Eileen (Aksamit), by his side. Don was a strong, quiet man with a tender heart, unwavering loyalty, and a "never give up" spirit. After studying history at Doane and UNL, he devoted his career to Mail Advertising, later Donnelly Marketing.
Don completed 33 marathons, co-founded the Ames Area Running Club, and helped found and champion Ames' beloved Run for the Roses for four decades. A devout Catholic, past Kiwanis president, and avid sports fan, he never lost his Husker optimism. Family was his greatest priority, keeping generations close through treasured "Christmas-in-July" gatherings.
Don is survived by his wife, Eileen; children, Karin Muff (Jan Holtze) and Don Muff, Jr. (Dawnelle); sisters, Betty (Muff) Heckman and Barb; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Elizabeth; daughter, Gretchen; and siblings, Marilyn, Leon, and Larry.
The Rosary will be Friday, October 23, from 4–6 p.m., and the Funeral Mass Saturday, October 24, at 11 a.m., both at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames.
