Bo Bytes: What he said

Husker coach Bo Pelini met the media Wednesday to announce the 2013 recruiting class, a session that lasted about 35 minutes and hit on a wide array of subjects. Here's a taste of some of what was said:

On the class in general: "With this group we have, going forward our goal obviously in the coming year is going to be to win them all. I think this is one step heading in that direction."

On whether recruiting commitments mean anything: "Recruiting, in general, is a whirlwind. It all depends on the young man. But across the country, let’s face it, commitments don’t mean a whole lot. With some kids they do. With some kids, you know as a coach when it’s going to mean something and when it’s not. But until you get that fax you know that no commitment is worth much."

On NCAA recruiting rules: "When I walk into high schools ... and there’s a head coach there ... as concerned as they are right now for where the rules are heading, and how it’s going to impact their young men, it tells me it’s probably not going down a right road.”

On if he had a problem with Vince Marrow and Kentucky going after former Husker commitment Marcus McWilson: "I don't know if it was Marrow. ... I don't know quite how it happened and why it happened, but I got the kids in this class that I wanted."

On Drake Martinez joining brother Taylor in the program: "It's different for a young man whose brother is here. I didn't want to make him feel pressured by us, by anybody. Let him make this decision for Drake, not because his brother's here and that it's expected he come to Nebraska. In fact, I was probably a little too hands-off at times and kind of giving him his space. ... And it started getting a little bit too close and I got on the phone and said, 'Let's talk about this and figure this out.' And it became really clear that he knew this was the place for him."

On his living room talks: “I talk a lot more about things other than football than I do football when I sit down in front of these kids and their families. Because, in my mind, that’s the most important. Football will take care of itself."
