Simpson wins all-around before hometown crowd

Simpson won the all-around title, joining Heather Brink (2000) as the only two Huskers to win that crown. Simpson also won the floor exercise, while Brink won the vault in her championship year. Michelle Bryant was Nebraska's first women's champion in 1990, winning on the vault. The Huskers finished fourth in 2003, matching their best efforts from 2000 and 2011. Nebraska also hosted the championship meet in 2009.

Baylor went 20-1 after that loss en route to its first NCAA title by a women's team. The Huskers ended the season 18-14, losing their last four regular-season games and falling to Iowa 71-67 in the second round of the WNIT.

Huskers fall short of softball title in Omaha

The runner-up trophy isn't quite enough for Nebraska's Ginger Cannon after the Huskers lost 2-1 in nine innings to UCLA in the championship of the 1985 Women's College World Series in Omaha. Cannon had a tournament-high five RBIs to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Nebraska's participation in the WCWS was later vacated by the NCAA after ruling NU had used two ineligible players. Omaha was the home of the WCWS for its first six seasons it was sanctioned by the NCAA from 1982-87. It then spent two years in Sunnyvale, Calif., before settling in Oklahoma City.
