Trending upward — What was that in the second quarter? A kickoff return of substance? Really? It was almost unrecognizable when true freshman Stanley Morgan sped 42 yards with a return, Nebraska's longest on a kickoff this season. Snicker if you want, but at this point NU is looking for any signs of progress.

Trending downward — This would be a kind way to describe Nebraska's season at this point. No way should a loss of this nature happen to a program that has the tradition and resources of Nebraska. In two-plus seasons, Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell has just two Big Ten victories — against Illinois and now against Nebraska.

Holding steady — Nebraska's struggles to defend quarterbacks who can run even a little. OK, many defenses struggle in this area. But the Huskers' execution and effort generally were poor on David Blough's way-too-easy, 56-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He had a few other key runs.
