𝙏𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝘼𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣)
Volume reading: 1
Band name: They Might Be Giants
Lead vocals: Junior Austin Allen has seen his role in Nebraska’s offense and in the program steadily grow since his arrival from Aurora High. Allen now is poised to be one of the most dangerous pass-catching tight ends in the Big Ten and pairs with Travis Vokolek to form a physically imposing pair. Allen averages 13.8 yards per catch for his career and can continue to be a big-play threat in this offense. How often he and Vokolek get targeted will help determine the production, of course, but this should be a strength of the offense.
The playlist
1. “It Takes Two”: How much two TE will Nebraska run this year? That leaves room for just two receivers on the field, but Allen and Vokolek make an intriguing personnel grouping, particularly for trying to run the ball.
2. “This Old Man”: OK, that’s not nice. But tight ends coach Sean Beckton is one of the most respected figures in the program. As long as he’s in Lincoln, NU’s tight ends — and recruiting efforts in Georgia — are in good hands.
3. “Down the Road”: Can freshman Thomas Fidone get back from an April ACL tear to contribute down the stretch? And how much progress do fellow newcomers James Carnie and A.J. Rollins make in their first years?
Shuffle
No. 11, Austin Allen, 6-9, 255, jr.; No. 24, Thomas Fidone, 6-6, 235, fr.; No. 46, John Goodwin, 6-2, 255, rfr.; No. 48, Evan Meyersick, 6-5, 185, fr.; No. 49, Nate Boerkircher, 6-4, 220, fr.; No. 81, James Carnie, 6-5, 230, fr.; No. 83, Travis Vokolek, 6-6, 260, jr.; No. 86, A.J. Rollins, 6-6, 230, fr.; No. 87, Chris Hickman, 6-5, 215, fr.

𝘿𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝘽𝙚𝙣 𝙎𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚)
Volume reading: 2
Band name: Trench Brigade
Lead vocals: Nebraska is going to get contributions (and forms of leadership) from a bunch of different players, but the unquestioned front-man is Ben Stille. The sixth-year senior is back for one more season and looking to build on 2020, when he played the best football of his career to date. Stille isn’t necessarily going to be asked to play 65 snaps a game, but he’s going to man his defensive end position, kick inside on passing downs and try to up his quarterback pressure rate in the process.
The playlist
1. “The Deep End”: Ty Robinson said at the outset of camp that he thinks Nebraska can go three-deep at every spot on the defensive line. The rotation figures to go at least six deep and perhaps more than that. It should be a strength of the roster.
2. “Two Nines Are Better Than One”: Robinson himself is one of the most important pieces of that big group. He’s talented, has had a productive season in the weight room and should only build off a successful first season of full-time work in 2020.
3. “Behind the Curtain”: Are there young players that might be ready to make a rotational debut? Nash Hutmacher, Mosai Newsom and Marquis Black are all candidates.
Shuffle
No. 50, Jailen Weaver, 6-8, 320, fr.; No. 52, Mosai Newsom, 6-4, 285, rfr.; No. 55, Chris Walker, 6-6, 290, jr.; No. 63, Ru’Quan Buckley, 6-5, 290, fr.; No. 71, Maddox Burton, 6-4, 285, fr.; No. 72, Nash Hutmacher, 6-4, 325, fr.; No. 80, Jacob Herbek, 6-5, 265, fr.; No. 82, Colton Feist, 6-2, 280, so.; No. 87, Jordon Riley, 6-6, 310, jr.; No. 89, Jamin Graham, 6-4, 265, rfr.; No. 92, Tate Wildeman, 6-6, 280, so.; No. 93, Damion Daniels, 6-3, 325, jr.; No. 95, Ben Stille, 6-5, 290, sr.; No. 96, Marquis Black, 6-3, 315, fr.; No. 97, Deontre Thomas, 6-2, 285, jr.; No. 98, Casey Rogers, 6-5, 295, so.; No. 99, Ty Robinson, 6-6, 305, rfr.

𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝘾𝙖𝙢 𝙏𝙖𝙮𝙡𝙤𝙧-𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙩)
Volume reading: 3
Band name: T-Fish and the Disciples
Lead vocals: Cam Taylor-Britt gathered some information about his draft stock but decided to return for a fourth year at Nebraska. Remember, he didn’t settle fully into the cornerback position until last year. He’s still got room to grow even though he’s turned himself into a dependable player and a big-play threat. Can he turn himself into one of the best corners in the Big Ten and the country?
The playlist
1. “Kokomo”: Nebraska feels comfortable leaving Taylor-Britt on an island, but what about the other side? Does Quinton Newsome grab hold of the job and not let go?
2. “Pedigree”: Nebraska has a couple of three-star guys from Orlando battling for spots on the two-deep in Braxton Clark and Tamon Lynum, but also a pair of former blue-chip prospects in Nadab Joseph and Ohio State transfer Tyreke Johnson. It’s going to be a heck of a battle.
3. “Six-String Pickin’”: If Nebraska is going to take the next step as a defense, it must force more turnovers. In order to force more turnovers, this group is going to have to pick the ball off more frequently.
Shuffle
No. 1, Tyreke Johnson, 6-1, 190, so.; No. 5, Cam Taylor-Britt, 6-0, 197, jr.; No. 6, Quinton Newsome, 6-1, 185, so.; No. 7, Tamon Lynum, 6-2, 180, fr.; No. 11, Braxton Clark, 6-4, 200, so.; No. 12, Marques Buford; 5-11, 190; No. 15, Malik Williams, 6-0, 190, fr.; No. 16, Nadab Joseph, 6-2, 195, so.; No. 37, Phalen Sanford, 5-11, 200, so.; No. 40, Darius Moore, 6-1, 185, jr.

𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝘼𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙯)
Volume reading: 4
Band name: The Adrian Martinez Band
Lead vocals: No doubt about it, the frontman is Adrian Martinez. He has as much experience as anybody on the roster, he’s played through ups and downs and he enters preseason camp as a two-time captain. Quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco is fond of saying that his position group is “one cog in the wheel of success or failure,” but the Huskers tend to go as Martinez goes.
Martinez said at the outset of camp that he feels like he has nothing left to lose and he’s been freed, in a way, mentally, by taking that approach. How will it translate on the field this fall? We’ll all find out together.
The playlist
1. “Hold on Tight”: Martinez’s biggest issue throughout his career has been turnover rate. Whether he makes a big step forward in 2021 depends, largely, on protecting the football.
2. “In the Depth (Chart) of Despair”: OK, the “despair” in this slow tune is a little overblown, but depth is certainly a question. Martinez has been hurt or at least banged up in each of his first three seasons at NU and the Huskers have two very green freshmen behind him on the depth chart.
3. “Friends in Tall Places”: It’s hard to talk about quarterbacks without mentioning their supporting cast, and Martinez is going to be throwing to a group of receivers that is substantially bigger than years past.
Shuffle
No. 2, Adrian Martinez, 6-2, 212, jr.; No. 8, Logan Smothers, 6-2, 195, fr.; No. 9, Spencer Arceneaux, 6-1, 180, fr.; No. 10, Heinrich Haarberg, 6-5, 200, fr.; No. 16, Jarrett Synek, 6-0, 190, fr.; No. 18, Matt Masker, 6-2, 220, so.

𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣: 𝘿𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙤 𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙡 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙢𝙪𝙠𝙚)

Band name: The Papas
Lead vocals: There’s no one or the other in the middle of Nebraska’s secondary. Deontai Williams and Marquel Dismuke are a duet. They’re each back for a sixth season, they’re both seen a lot in their college careers, they’re both dads and they’re both hoping to parlay strong 2021 campaigns into pro careers.
Oh, and they both have immense respect in Nebraska’s locker room.
The playlist
1. “Thumpers’ Anthem”: Williams and Dismuke are two of the biggest hitters on Nebraska’s defense. They have the ability to make teams think twice about going over the middle, but they also have to play smart and not risk the suspension that comes along with a targeting penalty.
2. “Next Wave”: This is the last run for Williams and Dismuke, so who’s up next? The list starts with redshirt freshmen Myles Farmer and Noa Pola-Gates, each of whom could work his way into rotational duty this year.
3. “Magic 8-ball”: NU is cross-training Javin Wright and Isaac Gifford at safety and at outside linebacker. Could a young guy like Koby Bretz impress early on? There are a lot of interesting decisions to make in the future in Travis Fisher’s group.
Shuffle
No. 4, Myles Farmer, 6-1, 200, rfr.; No. 8, Deontai Williams, 6-1, 205, sr.; No. 9, Marquel Dismuke, 6-1, 210, sr.; No. 21, Noa Pola-Gates, 6-0, 180, rfr.; No. 23, Isaac Gifford, 6-1, 205, fr.; No. 26, Koby Bretz, 6-2, 195, fr.; No. 29, Ashton Hausmann, 5-11, 215, fr.; No. 33, Javin Wright, 6-4, 210, rfr.; No. 35, Derek Branch, 5-11, 175, fr.; No. 36, Blake Closman, 5-10, 190, f.; No. 41, Christian Lilienkamp, 6-0, 170, fr.; No. 42, A.J. SCOTT BRUHN, Nebraska Athletics
𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙧 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝙇𝙪𝙠𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙧)
Volume reading: 6
Band name: NBFL (Nebraska Boys 4 Lyfe)
Lead vocals: The candidates are interesting with Will Honas out due to a spring knee injury, but let’s go with sophomore Luke Reimer. He’s played the most for Nebraska out of the group and he’s got the skill set to turn from a big-play threat into a top-shelf linebacker. Reimer, a former walk-on from Lincoln North Star, has to stay healthy and continue refining, but he can really run, arrives with force and has a bright future.
The Playlist
1. “How Many More?” Nebraska is counting heavily on Reimer, Omaha native Nick Henrich and UNI transfer Chris Kolarevic. Who else joins them? Potentially York native Garrett Snodgrass or former junior college transfer Eteva Mauga-Clements.
2. “Covering Ground”: Nebraska hasn’t had many middle-of-the-field players who are really good in coverage in recent years, but Kolarevic had a knack for it in the Missouri Valley and he impressed teammates in the spring.
3. “I Don’t Need No Doctor”: All three of NU’s top options have a history with injuries, including significant ones for Kolarevic and Henrich in college. Injuries are part of the game — what linebacker hasn’t been hurt? — but Nebraska could really use this trio staying healthy.

𝙒𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝙎𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙞 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙚)
Volume reading: 7
Band name: New Kidz on the Block
Lead vocals: The nod at the outset goes to senior Samori Toure. He just got to town in January, but the Montana transfer has taken a leadership role already and has the makings of being Nebraska’s top option at receiver. He’s playing a premium position in the slot and he’s got the tools to be a solid option in the Big Ten. Add it all up, and he could be the most-targeted player for Nebraska this fall.
The Playlist
1. “Deep Thoughts”: Nebraska really struggled to throw the ball downfield consistently in 2020. It’s got to change this fall, and NU thinks it has the guys to do it.
2. “Somewhere Over the Middle”: Wan’Dale Robinson was a tough dude and did some good work over the middle, but Samori Toure, Omar Manning and Zavier Betts should all provide nice, clean looks in the middle of the field for Martinez.
3. “Try a Little Continuity”: It’s been a revolving door at receiver since Frost took over. Can this group come together, be productive and then stay more or less together for more than one go-around?
Shuffle
No. 4, Alante Brown, 5-10, 185, fr.; No. 5, Omar Manning, 6-4, 225, jr.; No. 6, Samori Toure, 6-3, 190, sr.; No. 7, Latrell Neville, 6-4, 195, fr.; No. 12, Will Nixon, 5-11, 185, fr.; No. 13, Kamonte Grimes, 6-3, 200, fr.; No. 15 Zavier Betts, 6-2, 200, fr.; No. 17, Ty Hahn, 6-2, 195, fr.; No. 19, Barron Miles Jr., 5-10, 170, fr.; No. 38, Brody Belt, 5-9, 185, so.; No. 41, Elliott Brown, 6-1, 180, fr.; No. 45, Truitt Robinson, 6-0, 190, fr.; No. 47, Austin Jablonski, 6-2, 215, rfr.; No. 80, Shawn Hardy II, 6-3, 190, fr.; No. 82, Chancellor Brewington, 6-3, 185, jr.; No. 84, Alex Bullock, 6-2, 190, fr.; No. 85, Wyatt Liewer, 6-4, 195, so.; No. 88, Levi Falck, 6-2, 205, sr.; No. 89, Oliver Martin, 6-1, 200, jr.

𝙊𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙣 𝙅𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙨)
Volume reading: 8
Band name: Beef Choir
Lead vocals: Torch-passing always happens fast in college football, but it’s sort of amazing still that this is squarely Cam Jurgens’ group going into 2021. Sure, he has other veterans in the room like Matt Sichterman, but Jurgens is essentially a third-year starter in the middle of the offensive line. He’s an explosive athlete and has nearly unlimited potential, but he’s got to take the next step in harnessing it (and his snaps) this fall. If he can, he could be an All-Big Ten-type player. If not? There will be more questions about the young front line. That’s not to say it’s all on him, but the more he’s got his own game refined, the more he can help NU’s other young players up front.
The playlist
1. “Blindsided”: Nebraska is working in essentially a new left tackle in freshman Turner Corcoran, who started last year against Rutgers in place of 40-game stalwart Brenden Jaimes. Now it’s Corcoran’s turn to show that he can handle the job and be a long-term bookend for the Huskers.
2. “Let’s Stay Together”: Nine of NU’s 13 scholarship offensive linemen have at least four years of eligibility remaining. It’s a young group that will have some more growing pains, but could play together for a long time.
3. “Dirt Roads are Great (But the Highway’s Better)”: Three yards and a cloud of dust? That might sound like a fun road trip for a bunch of big, country-lovin’ offensive linemen, but they’d gladly produce consistently nice, paved roads on the field for NU’s running backs to rumble down.
Shuffle
No. 50, Sam Hoskinson, 6-0, 245, fr.; No. 51, Cam Jurgens, 6-3, 290, so.; No. 53, Riley Moses, 6-2, 305, rfr.; No. 54, Bryce Benhart, 6-9, 330, rfr.; No. 57, Ethan Piper, 6-3, 305, rfr.; No. 58, Ian Boerkircher, 6-6, 280, so.; No. 59, Henry Lutovsky, 6-6, 330, fr.; No. 62, Noah Stafursky, 6-4, 330, rfr.; No. 63, Nouredin Nouili, 6-4, 315, so.; No. 65, Teddy Prochazka, 6-9, 305, fr.; No. 66, Ezra Miller, 6-6, 315, rfr.; No. 67, Joey Mancino, 6-3, 300, fr.; No. 69, Turner Corcoran, 6-6, 300, fr.; No. 70, Matt Sichterman, 6-4, 310, jr.; No. 71, Keegan Menning, 6-5, 335, fr.; No. 72, Weston Reiman, 6-2, 290, fr.; No. 73, Broc Bando, 6-5, 315, jr.; No. 74, Brant Banks, 6-7, 305, rfr.; No. 75, Trent Hixson, 6-4, 320, jr.; No. 76, Beau Schaller, 6-2, 265, fr.; No. 77, Michael Lynn, 6-6, 295, rfr.; No. 78, Jimmy Fritzsche, 6-7, 290, rfr.; No. 79, Alex Conn, 6-6, 300, fr.

𝙊𝙪𝙩𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙧 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝙅𝙤𝙅𝙤 𝘿𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙣)
Volume reading: 9
Band name: Payne Train
Lead vocals: The frontman is most certainly JoJo Domann, the sixth-year senior who plays a unique position thanks to his unique skill set. Domann is essentially a nickel and an outside linebacker wrapped into one. He has defensive back traits and movement skills and has bulked up over time to 230 pounds, which helps him at the line of scrimmage. Now, can he be a disruptive pass-rush force, too? That’s what Nebraska is hoping for, and they’ll put a lot on the Colorado native’s plate this fall.
The playlist
1. “What’s the Rush?”: Who’s going to lead Nebraska in sacks? Might it be Domann? Pheldarius Payne? Somebody else from Mike Dawson’s group or a defensive lineman? NU would be happy if Payne is a pest for opposing offensive lines.
2. “Walking on the Edge”: Maybe the single biggest difference in Nebraska’s 2020 run defense compared with 2019 was its ability to more effectively control the edge. The next step, of course, is doing that and being more disruptive in the backfield.
3. “Who’s That Knocking on My Door?”: There are a bunch of young players who could in theory have roles this fall or could still be a year or more away. Count Isaac Gifford and Javin Wright in that group. Jimari Butler and Blaise Gunnerson, too, along with newcomer Wynden Ho’ohuli.
Shuffle
No. 0, Pheldarius Payne, 6-3, 260, jr.; No. 2, Caleb Tannor, 6-3, 225, jr.; No. 13, JoJo Domann, 6-1, 230, sr.; No. 17, Jimari Butler, 6-5, 245, fr.; No. 24, Blaise Gunnerson, 6-6, 255, fr.; No. 34, Simon Otte, 6-2, 205, so.; No. 38, Damian Jackson, 6-2, 270, jr.; No. 44, Garrett Nelson, 6-3, 245, so.; No. 54, Ryan Schommer, 6-5, 260, so.; No. 81, Nick Leader, 6-1, 210, rfr.; No. 84, Eli Richter, 6-4, 235, rfr.; No. 85, John Bullock, 6-0, 215, rfr.

𝙍𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝙂𝙖𝙗𝙚 𝙀𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙣)
Volume reading: 10
Band name: The Who?
Lead vocals: The running back room is in approximately the tryout phase of The Voice. There are six candidates on scholarship in Ryan Held’s room, but none of them has secured the job as of this writing. Freshmen Gabe Ervin and Jaquez Yant seem likely to factor in some way, while USC transfer Markese Stepp’s role really will be determined by his health and rehab from spring foot surgery. The rest? Well, someone could rise to the top of the list — Marvin Scott might be the most likely — but this is a wide-open competition during preseason camp.
The playlist
1. “If It’s too Hot (Get Out the Kitchen)”: Held made no bones about the fact that somebody, somewhere along the way is going to end up on the outside looking in. Who’s it going to be?
2. “All the Little Things”: NU takes great pride in its proficiency in protecting the ball (one fumble in 2020) and the quarterback (Dedrick Mills was one of the best pass protectors in the Big Ten). That will matter in this battle.
3. “Runnin’ Down a Field”: Who in the backfield has home run speed? The first answers that come to mind (Sevion Morrison and Rahmir Johnson), aren’t the guys seen as favorites for the lead job currently. Can they parlay speed into carries?
Shuffle
No. 0, Jaquez Yant, 6-2, 245, fr.; No. 14, Rahmir Johnson, 5-10, 185, rfr.; No. 21, Marvin Scott III, 5-9, 205, fr.; No. 22, Gabe Ervin, 6-0, 215, fr.; No. 26, Cooper Jewett, 5-10, 190, rfr.; No. 28, Sevion Morrison, 6-0, 210, fr.; No. 30, Markese Stepp, 6-1, 230, so.; No. 31, Zach Weinmaster, 5-10, 190, rfr.; No. 3, Beau Psencik, 6-0, 205, fr.; No. 35, Trevin Luben, 5-11, 200, fr.; No. 37, Isaiah Harris, 5-8, 190, fr.; No. 39, Matthew Schuster, 5-9, 170, fr.; No. 44, Aiden Young, 5-9, 175, fr.

𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨 (𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙣: 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙥)
Volume reading: 11
Band name: Dropkick Murphy’s Law
Lead vocals: Nebraska returns senior place-kicker Connor Culp, who won the Big Ten’s kicker of the year award in 2020 thanks to a very accurate campaign. Culp made 12-of-15 field goal attempts and all 20 of his extra points. He provided stability at a position where the Huskers had struggled in 2019 and is expected to do the same in 2021.
The playlist
1. “50 Yards to Freedom”: Nebraska needs more consistent punting this year. In 2020, freshman Daniel Cerni missed the entire year with an injury. This year, he’s competing with sophomore William Przystup for the starting job.
2. “Cover Me”: Nebraska’s given up three kick returns for scores the past two years, a problem that more touchbacks will help solve. NU also has to use its improved roster depth to be more solid on coverage units.
3. “Greener Pastures”: Net starting field position isn’t solely a special teams stat, but the Huskers have consistently started off in worse spots than their opponents the past two years. That’s got to change if a turnaround is to actually occur.
Shuffle
Punter: No. 40, Daniel Cerni, 6-4, 225, fr.; No. 90, William Przystup, 6-4, 250, so.
Place kicker: No. 25, Kelen Meyer, 6-3, 190, fr.; No. 33, Connor Culp, 6-0, 180, sr.; No. 92, Brendan Franke, 6-3, 215, fr.; No. 97, Josh Jasek, 6-1, 175, fr.
Long snapper: No. 55, Brig Banks, 6-2, 240, jr.; Cameron Pieper, 6-3, 260, so.; No. 94, Cade Mueller, 6-0, 220, so.; No. 96, Camden Witucki, 6-2, 225, fr.
